Frequently Asked Questions - CLEAR PRESENCE
Q: You keep talking about Clear Presence™ in your literature. Frankly, that phrase sounds like a hundred other New Age abstractions that seem impressive and “spiritual”. What do you actually mean by your use of the words “Clear Presence™”?
A butterfly on a flower
A: In some ways, Clear Presence is the Seinfeld of personal growth—it’s about “nothing”. It’s about being there for another person with warm, non-judgmental attention and then receiving and speaking into that same rare and gracious presence. It’s about not being alone. So it’s everything and nothing at the same time. Clear Presence creates a space for you to fill with being you, however you are!

Clear Presence is not easy to describe. It is a shop manual with specific protocols and step-by-step techniques, as well as a radical philosophy of human connection. It’s a powerful blend of mindfulness, present moment living, and witnessing our awareness and the awareness of others without judgment or comment. Because Clear Presence seemed to be doing so many good things for us, we just knew it deserved a nice name.

Q: Your program prohibits any socializing between phone partners. That policy seems a little cold to me. Why is this necessary?
A: Have you ever attended a yoga or tai chi class? Not a lot of socializing in the middle of the postures or movements, right? It’s the very same thing with Clear Presence programs. We teach a very specific set of protocols, some of which are finely tuned and seem counter-intuitive. The tone of the communications in Clear Presenceis often contemplative and meditative. The waters in these brief phone calls frequently run deep. We’re not opposed to socializing – we just think it dilutes the power and impact of the particular practice that we are teaching. It does feel a little unusual at first. Before long, genuine connection and expression develops without needing to jump through meet-and-greet hoops first.

There’s another strictly practical reason for the “no socializing” policy during the program phone calls. It is imperative that the partners complete the phone calls within seven minutes. That requires sticking to the format.

Q. What is this “kit” that I read about on your website?
A woman writing in a journal
A: We designed a kit that contains all the information and tools to start you on your way. You will receive our Clear Presence Journal, and a nifty timer (which can buzz, flash, or vibrate) to aid your daily calls. Participants in The 7-Minute Path will receive a bestselling guided imagery recording for stress reduction by Doreen Blumenfeld, and individuals enrolled in
The 7-Minute Diet will receive a pedometer. Of course along with this, you will receive the Clear Presence guidelines, specific protocols for your program and contact information for your group.
